An Early Look at 2016 Breeders Cup Classic

The Breeders’ Cup this year will be held in California and Santa Anita Park. In the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the competitors will be in the race for the share of $6 million, which is $1 million more than it was last year. If competitors want a shot at taking a good chunk of this money, then they will first need to get past the top dirt handicap horse, California Chrome.

California Chrome was good at just 2 years old, at 3 years old he was great and at 4 years old it looked like he was going to have an amazing season, but due to injury, he was derailed. Now California Chrome is 5 years old and he is amazing on the field. California Chrome, who is the son of Lucky Pulpit has had victories in the G2 San Pasqual, the Group 1, a handicap at Meydan, the G2 San Diego Handicap, $10 million Dubai World Cup and the Win and You’re in Grade 1 Pacific Classic. California Chrome is set to be the one to beat in the World Championships’ premier race as he is performing better than ever.

An older runner, Bradester has also blossomed and has been given an automaticentry into the Classic because of his first career grade 1 win in the Stephan FosterHandicap. Bradester is 6 years old and used his speed in the race before he dug inand held off Eagle in the stretch. Bradester has also won the G2 Monmouth Cup andMajestic Light Stakes this year, but he ended up eighth in the Grade 1 Woodward.

Melatonin, is another older runner and has really come into his own in 2016. He hasgathered victories in the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita and the G1 Santa AnitaHandicap. In the G2 Oaklawn Handicap, he ran and came in a solid second. However, the problem is that even though he has had wins, he has yet to facecompetition like what he will be up against in the Classic.

Exaggerator is a mud specialist and gained victories at the G1 Haskell Invitational for3 year olds, the G1 Preakness and the G1 Santa Anita Derby. However, the Exaggerator has yet to win on a fast track  so unless it rains on the 5th of November, the performance of this horse might come up a little short.

Frosted has the potential to be a great runner, but he will be coming up against California Chrome. However, Frosted is able to run, which he showed in the G1 Whitney and Grade 1 Met Mile. It is not set yet, which way Frosted will go, but he could be a quick presence in the Classic.

Other contenders for the Breeders’ Cup Classic are the G3 Iowa Derby Winner American Freedom, G1 Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist, G1 Travers winner Arrogate and the multiple Grade 1 winner Beholder.

However, due to Beholder not being able to defend her title against California Chrome, she might be heading to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff instead of the Classic.

Other possibilities include New York-bred multiple graded stakes winner Effinex, last year’s Santa Anita Derby winner Dortmund, G1 Woodward Stakes Winner Shaman Ghost, Dubai World Cup third place winner Hoppertunity and Dubai World Cup runner-up Mubtaahij.

There are still quite a few races before the Classic, so this might change what happens, but if you are ready for the action then perhaps you are ready to place a wager. William Hill horse racing offers odds on all current and forthcoming horse races.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic field is limited to 14 starters, but if all the top players show up this year then it looks like it will be loaded. California Chrome does have the home track advantage, but it will not be as easy as that for the former Triple Crown Winner.

Horse racing bets are exciting and there are plenty of races to choose from this year and even next year. The most thrilling part of betting on the horses is that you are able to watch all the races live and cheer on your favorite in the hopes that they justget their nose across the line first.
