Reveiwer was a homebred classic winner son of Bold Ruler for the Wheatley Stable owner Mrs. Henry Carnegie Phipps. Reveiwer could never fully live up to his potential because his career was plagued by injuries. He did manage to win the Sapling Stakes and Saratoga Special as a juvenile, and was a stakes winner at three and four. However, a fractured cannon bone as a juvenile set him back, as well as another one as a three year old and yet another one as a four year old. He was permantly retired at four years old.
Ruffian was of the first crop of foals sired by Reviewer, and she was also his first winner, and would eventually become his first stakes winner as well. In his second crop of foals, there was Revidere who won the Coaching Club American Oaks and the Ruffian Stakes, and earned an Eclipse Award as a champion three-year-old filly of 1976.

Shenanigans was sired by Native Dancer and was out of the Locust Hill foundation mare, Bold Irish. Janney once recalled, "Shenanigans was meant to be a good mare, she had speed and she was second to Miss Spin in the Maryland Fururity, but she developed a little calcium in a knee. She raced a little bit at three, but we decided she wasn't going to be able to win a stakes, so we stopped with her."
The Janneys were going to send her to Bold Ruler for her first season, but opted to send her to KNightly Manner, which she failed to conceive with. The next breeding was with Neartic, a son of Nearco (The Nearco line was by far a favorite by Mrs. Janney, and was often used to breed her mares), this mating resulted in Icecapade, who won the William du Pont Jr and Nassau County handicapps along with four other stakes. The most succesfull mating was, however, the 1971 mating to Reviewer which resulted in none other than...Ruffian!
