Cigar could not have possibly had as much success had it not been for a few humans that helped him along the way. Here is some info on the Trainer, Jockey and Owner that helped Cigar become the famouse racehorse he is.

Cigar and Bill Mott

Bill Mott was the 1995 Trainer of the year and deservedly so, that was the year his star horse, Cigar, won 10 of 10 races earning over $4.5 million and continuing his winning streak. Besides Cigar, in 1995, he won 35 stakes races with 22 different horses, and he ranked 2nd (behind D.Wayne Lukas) in earnings with $11.7 million in 1995. Mott has also won nine training titles at the historic Churchill Downs. Also, besides Cigar, he has trained two other eclipse award winning horses including Theatrical in 1987 and Arlington million winner Paradise Creek in 1984.

Allen Paulson
Owner

Paulson won the Eclipse award for Owner of the Year in 1995, due largely to the outstanding performance by his leading man, Cigar. his horses earned $7,232,967 in 1995, and included stakes winners, Apolda, Admiralty, Sudana and Flag Down. Besides Cigar, Paulson has owned many other notable horses, including North American champions, Estrapade, Theatrical, Blushing John, Arazi and Eliza. Also, in 1993, Paulson was given the Eclipse Award for North America's leading breeder.

As with Paulson and Mott, Bailey also recieved and Eclipse Award as North America's leading rider in 1995. Bailey was the man who guided Cigar through his outstanding 16 race winning streak. In 1995 he became the first jockey to exceed $16 million in earnings in a single season. He led all the jockeys in stakes earnings with $10,116,518 and with 287 victories in 1995.
